Socialite’s School Brings Hope To Brazilian Slum (via @nprnews)

It’s amazing to see the growth spurt Brazil is experiencing right now, and from a comparative politics standpoint, the development of governments under a globalized microscope is just fascinating. In the last five minutes alone, I’ve stumbled on news briefs ranging from favela crackdowns, to drug busts in Rio de Janeiro, and developments in education. See what I mean?

I’m planning to attend the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (Viva CBF!), and as both a huge fútbol fan and student of political science, (as well as resident of post-1996 Olympics Atlanta!), it’s been a pleasure to watch Brazil take off like this. She’s something to watch, and I’m predicting huge advancements in social, economic, educational, and technological sects, not to mention hospitality (i.e. hotels and management), and construction (i.e. the mega sports complexes being blueprinted in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro today).

To that point, we should definitely keep tabs on the economics of it all while such development unfolds, as investors are currently flocking to Brazil as we speak. Whether or not we’ll see major disparities between rural neighborhoods and major urban hubs is yet to be seen, but as it stands, Brazil is becoming competitive in more than just the beautiful game.
